Umaji: People at the Heart of Software Projects

 

I founded Umaji in the fall of 2020 to put more than 25 years of experience in software development, architecture, team management, and large-scale project leadership to work.

 

My conviction is simple: the success of a software project, no matter how complex, depends first and foremost on people’s ability to collaborate. An engaged, well-aligned team supported by a healthy culture can deliver lasting results, even in the most demanding contexts.

 

This principle, often stated by senior leadership, rarely translates into concrete actions. Yet it is in the day-to-day relationship between a team leader and their members that the local culture is shaped, and project success with it. This is where I step in, helping leaders create the conditions that enable collective performance.

 

My engagements range from diagnostics and system technology assessments, to architecture and integration, coaching for technical leaders, project and operations recovery, and interim leadership. In each case, my role is to clarify the challenges, structure execution, and restore momentum, while strengthening collaboration and efficiency.

 

I have always been passionate about developing people — whether colleagues, team members, or students. This passion, combined with my expertise in complex projects, is what I now bring to my clients to help them achieve their goals.

I specialize in contexts where momentum has been lost — whether that means getting a project back on track, clarifying direction, or strengthening cohesion between technical and business stakeholders. I have led or supported major initiatives, from full system redesigns to the deployment of new platforms, helping teams move from difficult phases to concrete and sustainable deliveries.

 

I have also led the development of large-scale, mission-critical systems used in high-visibility, high-demand operational environments.

 

I am recognized for delivering results while building strong relationships, encouraging transparency, and fostering continuous improvement. My role is to help teams and leaders move forward together by surfacing and addressing the difficult conversations that can stand in the way of their goals.
