I launched Umaji in fall 2020 to share the knowledge and experience I acquired over my years in software engineering. My approach to management evolved over time, eventually coalescing into a simple but powerful realization: humans are at the core of teams. Teams, in turn, are at the core of success.
It is something we hear quite often in management talks or company HR pitches, but it is in reality very difficult to translate to concrete actions. And yet, a happy team is more engaged, more effective, more resilient. It is therefore at this level that the role of manager becomes crucial in any organization: it is this person that creates the local team culture, and who, ultimately, is best placed to influence the team towards success.
Agility is also a phenomenal springboard for development teams. The weight of processes often being underestimated, it is worth questioning them regulary, and accept that they will change over time. That is one start of a continuous improvement culture, which brings sometimes very surprising results after a while, with each step being a small one.
I have always enjoyed helping people grow, from colleagues to employees, to students when I was teaching. It is this passion, combined with my love of software engineering, that I am now sharing with my clients.
I've been working in software development for over 20 years, with more than 10 years in team management, software architecture, project direction and setting up agile processes.
Having grown from Software Developer up to a Director role in a large multinational company, I have often been faced with a wide variety of challenges and problems on my projects. Throughout the years, I have built a solid expertise and reputation for bringing projects back on track, improving delivered results as well as team morale and engagement.
I have been recognized by my employees, peers and higher management for building highly functioning teams through servant leadership, caring deeply for the well being of my staff while delivering complex projects under very high pressure.
